Not the typical debris they\u2019re used to mapping &#8211; but a perfectly defined shape, standing out clearly from the riverbed.<\/p><p>A four-metre-long anchor. Undisturbed for decades.<\/p><p>With data from the SeaBat T51-R sonar from Teledyne Marine, the team could already tell this wasn\u2019t an ordinary find. When divers recovered it, the mystery only deepened: wrapped around the anchor was a fragment of net from a Riga factory that closed in the 1940s.<\/p><p>So how did it get there?\u00a0<\/p><p>No one knows, yet&#8230;<\/p><p>But this is exactly what makes hydrography so fascinating. It\u2019s not just about safe navigation or data accuracy.
